Mercedes Schlapp has no easy work in the role of White House adviser for strategic communication. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough job as the White House strategic communications adviser. She's dealing with an administration that includes a president acting as their own director of communications. However, throughout it all Schlapp has stayed focussed on the task that she has been assigned, and is working closely with the White House's policy and legislative affairs teams and policy shops as as the broader communications operation in order to oversee policy implementations. So far, her primary focus has been on topics such as security in schools and the opioid crisis, infrastructure, trade as well as other topics. Schlapp isn't involved with journalists often in her current position. The month of March was when she garnered plenty of press attention when her name was mentioned as a possible candidate for the position of succeeding Hope Hicks in the role as communications director. Mercedes Schlapp isn't in a comfortable position as White House strategist communications advisor. The job can be difficult by the fact that she is working with the president who is also his communications director. There are also multiple legal cases which can disrupt an administration's message strategy, and several Cabinet secretaries entangled with personal scandals. Schlapp is able to remain focussed and focused, working in conjunction with White House teams in political matters, legislative affairs and policy, as well as the communications department in general. In the beginning, she has concentrated on school safety concerns, addiction infrastructure, trade, and addiction. Schlapp's current job doesn't involve any contact with journalists. It was in March that she was the subject of a sudden surge in attention, when it became it was reported that she would be the next candidate to fill Hope Hicks's position as director of communication. There's been some tense fights. Schlapp's allies and Tony Sayegh have begun to fight within the press. Schlapp said that when she was informed that when the Washington Examiner ran a story that contained negative comments about Sayegh, she had a discussion with the latter.
